World Wildlife Day is observed each year on 3rd March to celebrate the wildlife of the planet. On this day in 1973 CITES, ‘the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora’ was signed. Today we celebrate the completion of 50 years of CITES that has laid down the framework of protection of species for the member countries. Today there are 183 member countries and over 38000 species of endangered fauna and flora are protected under CITES.
Corbett Tiger Reserve is the symbol of wildlife conservation movement in India. Corbett National Park, originally created as Hailey National Park in 1936 was the first national park of India and Asia. In 1973, Project Tiger was launched at Corbett National Park and today there are over 250 tigers in the reserve, the highest number for any reserve.
Jim’s Jungle Retreat celebrates World Wildlife Day and wishes that the tiger, along with all the creatures that share its habitat thrive in this beautiful reserve forever.
