Biodiversity can be defined as the sum total of all life forms found in any given habitat or geographical area. These include animals, plants, fungi, bacteria and other microscopic organisms. All components of the biodiversity in any given area share intricate relationships with several others that they share their habitat with and together form a working ecosystem.
Jim’s Jungle Retreat is a vibrant ecosystem supporting diverse components of all lifeforms. The habitat supports more than 140 species of trees, shrubs and grasses attracting about 25 species of mammals, over 250 species of birds, up to 30 species of reptiles & amphibians and close to 80 species of butterflies.
Jim’s Jungle Retreat celebrates International Day of Biological Diversity 2022 with the addition of a new butterfly species to the list of butterflies recorded at the Retreat. Today we recorded the presence of Common Cerulean, a butterfly species that had never been recorded before at the Retreat, photographed by our Chief Naturalist Manoj Sharma at the waterhole outside our library.
