Changeable Hawk Eagle is a common bird of prey of the forests of the Himalayan foothills, including Corbett Tiger Reserve. It is a formidable raptor, known to feed on a variety of prey, including small and large birds, snakes, frogs, lizards and mammals. Among mammals, it is known to take squirrels, rats, hares, treeshrews and occasionally monkeys.
Recently, while on a safari to Jhirna zone of Corbett Tiger Reserve, Jim’s Jungle Retreat naturalist Jeewan Rautela came across a juvenile Changeable Hawk Eagle feeding on a baby Rhesus Macaque.
