The Jungle Cat is slightly bigger than a house cat with longer legs, a shorter tail and has pointed ears. Its coat is uniform unspotted sandy-brown or grey with some barring on the legs and a few black rings in the tail. The Jungle Cat is solitary in nature, except for the mating season and when the mother is raising the kittens. It is crepuscular and nocturnal in nature.
Jungle Cat is one of the four species of lesser cats occurring in Corbett Tiger Reserve. Rarely seen on the safaris, this individual was recorded at Laldhang grassland in Dhela Tourism Zone of Corbett Tiger Reserve by Jim’s Jungle Retreat naturalist Rakesh Bhatt.
