During monsoon season, the guests of Jim’s Jungle Retreat are privileged to witness the intricate nesting behavior of the Baya Weaver on safaris to Corbett Tiger Reserve. This male Baya Weaver weaving its nest was beautifully captured by our naturalist Jeewan Rautela on one such safari. These skilled avian architects create mesmerizing, intricate nests using blades of grass and other plant materials.
The male weavers meticulously construct these pendulous, flask-shaped nests, hanging from tree branches or reeds. The females inspect and choose the most impressive nest, signaling their approval by mating with the male. This synchronized nesting activity forms a captivating spectacle, as the air is filled with fluttering wings and melodious calls. Observing the Baya Weavers’ nest-building prowess adds a remarkable touch to the safari experience at Jim’s Jungle Retreat.
