Corbett Tiger Reserve is a bird watcher’s paradise with over 500 species of birds recorded in the area. Kajij Pheasant is a beautiful pheasant species, distributed along the Himalayan foothills from western Himalayas in Pakistan, eastwards through India, and till western Thailand. It is commonly seen in the jungles of Corbett Tiger Reserve. Male Kalij Pheasant is dark in coloration with streaks of silvery white on the underparts and females are brown versions of males. Both sexes have bare red skin around their face. Males of the western Himalayan race have a silvery white crest while the ones found eastwards have a black crest.
Jungles near Jim’s Jungle Retreat are rich in birdlife and one of the highlights of our safari experience is the elegant Kalij Pheasant.
