Tigers are highly territorial and aggressive when it comes to protecting their territories. In summer months, the competition for territorial claims on the waterbodies including forest streams and waterholes reaches a mad frenzy. Tigers depend heavily on water sources for their survival during summer and fiercely fight for these prized real estate wilderness spots. A tiger would fight others of its kind to retain hold over waterbodies and many a times the territorial fights over waterbodies is a cause of tiger deaths. Being the only cat in the world that willingly goes into water and sits for hours, a tiger also finds the waterbodies convenient for securing their kills, as all animals, big and small, have to come to drink at some point of time.
This young tiger was recently seen surveying its newly acquired territory along a forest stream close to Jim’s Jungle Retreat.
